This book is a quick and powerful read, filled with practical and inspiring information for anyone on a sober journey. It’s tough to find motivation to move into fitness after getting sober, but this book lays out a clear, step-by-step blueprint—just like working the 12 steps. It’s more than just a guide to fitness; it’s a roadmap to building a thriving, healthy life in recovery. The sections on nutrition and rest really stood out to me. As a former meth addict, those were two of the hardest areas for me to bring back into my life. If I had read this book after my last relapse, I truly believe it could’ve helped me stay on track.
My one suggestion? I would’ve loved to see before-and-after photos of Josh in the book. That visual motivation would have added even more impact and inspiration for people like me.
There are a lot of life skills that you need to learn in early recovery covering diet, spirituality, fitness and other things that you may have neglected during your using days. I found this book as a great read to help cover the basics of things you may need to relearn. Thank you Josh! Wonderful book
This is a good book for recovery all new comers should read
I have some sobriety time it was very helpful
Sober Fitness is a compelling and refreshingly honest exploration of the intersection between physical health and addiction recovery. This book goes beyond simply promoting fitness as a lifestyle it positions it as a foundational pillar in the long-term maintenance of sobriety. He speaks from experience, blending his own journey through addiction and recovery with evidence-based fitness strategies and mindset tools. Whether you’re in early recovery or years into your sober life, Sober Fitness offers something valuable.
What sets this book apart is its focus on rebuilding the mind-body connection. Grant doesn’t preach perfection; he emphasizes consistency, growth, and the importance of setting and achieving realistic goals. The workout plans are accessible, the nutritional advice is sensible, and the motivational tone never feels forced or gimmicky. Perhaps most impactful is how Sober Fitness reframes fitness not as vanity or punishment, but as a form of self-respect and spiritual restoration. Josh Grant has written a powerful recovery tool. Highly recommended for anyone seeking to build a stronger, sober life from the inside out.
This is a great read. It’s not about working out or sobriety. This book has the reader take a deeper look and establish a “why”. A purpose. That’s the start to a real journey of change, not just a manual or “12 steps”. Definitely recommend.
